Amir Temur made Shahrisabz (Kesh) a city-fortress protected by high walls. They were equal to the walls of Ichan-Kala in Khiva and Bukhara Arch. They were made of clay bricks. The walls were 8-9 meters thick (at the bottom) and 11 meters high. In every 50 meters of the walls there were erected semi-cylindrical towers. Under them there was dug a deep ditch. They were equipped with 4 gates and drawbridges. The walls went through mane sieges and in 18th - 19th centuries helped Shahrisabz to defend its independence in numerous wars aqainst Bukhara amirs.
