Accompanying and local guides
A good guide is key to a successful trip in Uzbekistan. This person will show you around, take you to the most famous monuments and tell you about the history, culture, traditions, current political situation etc. S/he will recommend best restaurants, itineraries, will take care of safety and security matters. The guide is there to deal with local police, immigration and customs, if they have questions to you. This person usually speaks your language, and will also be an intermediary between you and your driver, hotel staff, people in the street etc.

You can have two possible options as far as guides are concerned: accompanying (through) guide and local guide. The first option, accompanying guide, is the person who would accompany you during your entire tour, from greeting at the border, to seeing you off on the last day. S/he would usually be the one to take care of all the matters described above. With all the advantages of having such a guide, you will have to pay an additional cost associated with his/her work, stay in hotels and meals in the restaurants.

A local guide means a person hired as a guide in each city where you go. S/he would be with you a few hours or a full day, usually to show you sights and, in some cases, recommend places to eat. Such a guide would have much less responsibilities as to possible problems with your hotel, your luggage, your safety etc.

If desired, you can have both options together.
